Workplace Health & Safety Policy

BG Brisbane Sources produce for Domestic Markets.  Our Goal is to Consistently Provide our Customers with Safe Quality Produce.

BG Brisbane is committed to promoting a zero tolerance environment where the risk of harm to our people, through our work activities is unacceptable.  To meet this commitment the company will provide so far as is reasonably practicable a healthy and safe environment for all people associated with our business, including employees, contractors, suppliers, visitors and the community.

BG Brisbane will continually work towards achieving zero harm through best practice standards and by eliminating work related incidences including injury, illness and risk.

All persons associated with BG Brisbane have a responsibility for implementing, supporting and maintaining the BG Brisbane Work Health & Safety Policy (WHS).  All personnel entering BGB sites shall comply with the requirements of this policy.   BG Brisbane is committed to providing our employees with training and allocating adequate resources to help ensure the commitments of this WHS Policy are met.

 

In Order to meet the above expectations BG Brisbane shall :

  • Demonstrate leadership and commitment through all Managers and Supervisors.
  • To provide adequate control of the health and safety risks arising from our work activities through the process of hazard identification, risk assessments, implementation of controls, monitoring, evaluation and verification to ensure effectiveness.
  • Comply with all applicable WHS statutory requirements.
  • Implement WHS management systems to establish and maintain a safe and healthy workplace for our people and protection of the environment.
  • To provide and maintain safe plant and equipment.
  • Strive to continuously improve WHS performance by regularly measuring KPI’s in relation to WHS issues and reviewing and discussing outcomes during Management meetings.
  • Develop WHS awareness and competencies with the implementation of documented training.
  • Ensure employees are competent to do their tasks. Provide training through adequate work instructions, information, and supervision.
  • To consult with our employees on matters affecting their health and safety through methods such as toolbox talks.
  • Ensure all incidents and non-compliant situations are reported, recorded and full investigated, and where injury, illness occurs, or could have occurred, ensure corrective actions are implemented.
  • In the event where a worker has sustained a work related injury or illness, assist them to achieve maximum recovery through prompt intervention, treatment, active rehabilitation, structured injury management and return to work programs.
  • To review and revise this policy as necessary at regular intervals.

All Accidents, Injuries, Slips, Falls or Near Misses Must Be Reported Immediately To Your Immediate Supervisor or Management.

An incident report form will need to be completed before finishing your shift.

Should you need to make a Workcover Claim :-

The fastest and easiest way is to complete and submit an online claim. Phone 1300 362 128 and talk to a member of the WorkCover team.  You can complete a paper copy of the claim form (please see HR (Andrea) to get a copy) and either upload using the Workcover online service, or fax it to 1300 651 387 or post the completed form to GPO Box 2459, Brisbane Qld 4001.

Amenities

FIRST AID

The business has two dedicated first aid kits available for employees to access.

  1.  C Block – located in the Floor Managers office.   Please complete an incident form for any injuries that require first aid treatment.  All items used from the kit need to be recorded.
  2. S Block – located under the Admin Office.   Please complete an incident form for any injuries that require first aid treatment.  All items used from the kit need to be recorded.

FIRST AID OFFICERS

BG Brisbane has several certified first aid officers on site.  These employees are:-

STAFF ROOM

BG Brisbane has two dedicated Staff Rooms for staff to access during their shifts.

  1. C Block –  Staff Room is located on the mezzanine level.
  2. S Block – Located off the Packing Room in the out of service ‘Coldroom’

The Staff Room contains lockers for personal items to be stowed, tea and coffee making facilities, refrigerator, microwave and access to water.
